SPECIAL: Derby winner’s shoes featured in AFJ, now on AFJ.com
Would you like to know more about the shoes that wound up in the Winners Circle at Churchill Downs last Saturday?
Big Brown, the colt that ran away from the field to win the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, was shod with Yasha Shoes, developed by racetrack blacksmith Ian McKinlay of South Amboy, N.J.
The Yasha Shoe is a combination of a flexible and lightweight shoe that is bonded to a coated polyurethane rim pad. We interviewed McKinlay about the shoe at the International Hoof-Care Summit in January. The American Farriers Journal April “Shoeing Showcase” issue included a story on the new technology on Pages 90 and 91. Read the article here.
